2009 DIVE TEAM INFORMATION

We are pleased to announce the addition of head coach John Appleman. John was a long-time NVSL diver and was a champion many times on both the one and three meter boards. He dove in college for George Mason and head up the Dominion Dive Club here in Fairfax County. Michelle Carroll and Ryan Fox are back as assistant coaches as well. The dive team will face a challenging season, but with many returning and new divers, and our experienced coaching staff, we hope for the best.

DIVE TEAM PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Mornings (Monday-Friday)

VIENNA WOODS DIVE PROGRAM

We will compete again in Division 1 (of 8 Divisions) with our returning divers, but could use some new divers for our team. We are especially looking for divers between the ages of 10 to 14 - especially boys. The Dive Team is open to all pool members up to the age of 17.

Younger divers need to be capable of passing their patch test in order to join. No experience is necessary to join and it is a fun and rewarding experience for all team members. Dive team practice will begin one week prior to the official pool opening.

Each team is allowed 32 divers and our freshman divers (10 and under) must be able to complete a front dive, back dive and optional dive. If your new diver is still attaining these skills, there will be meet opportunities for them to dive.

For each home meet, we are obliged to supply: a referee, 2 judges, an announcer, a meet secretary, and 2 table workers.  The visiting team supplies 3 judges and 2 table workers.

  • VOLUNTEERING

Like the swim team, the dive team is run entirely by volunteers (except for our coaches).  It takes at least 10 parents to run each meet.  We need each family to provide the dates of at least 2 meets where they can volunteer.  Positions will be assigned according to the responses I receive.  Please either email me the dates that you are available, or use sign up sheets at the pot luck.  The dates are as follows.

Please note that if you are new to the team, new divers will have at least 3 opportunities to dive in a meet.

Parents, we really need help in judging and working the scorers table. Clinics for these activities are being set up and will be posted shortly. Please let me know how you intend to help out this year so I can start getting the schedules organized.  Home meets especially require all the help we can get.  I have been to many judges clinics and always find them helpful.

    PARENTS

Parents, we always could use more help with our meets. Please sign up to help with the meets. The success of our program depends a great deal on your volunteer efforts.  Contact Lisa Stickel, Dive Team Rep, at lastickel@covad.net.
